2019 Flying B Syrah

Flying B Syrah

Josh's Notes

This is the first time we have made this wine and wow, it is truly unique. Flying B is located at about 1,000 feet in elevation in deep silt soils that are laid over fingers of river rock about 18- 20 inches below the surface. Out of all our estates in Walla Walla, this site sees our highest temperatures and also our lowest temperatures - huge diurnal swings. It is grown on a head trained style system and the wine itself truly is unique, requiring time and understanding of the place. It crosses crazy lines between Cote Rotie Syrah and Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. A wild, esoteric nose, changing all the time from soy sauce, green beans, hints of cinnamon, and teriyaki - layers galore - absolutely crazy. This wine has great richness, is soft on the front, and ends with the softest touch of grip and length. I recommend decanting this wine if opening soon, and watching it unfold over the evening. Drink now through 2030.
